Dr. Borkowski has been in practice 50 years, and his area of specialty is prosthodontics.  He went into dentistry because of his parents guidance.  Married with 5 children, Dr. Borkowski likes cruises, landscaping, photography, painting, golfing, and boating.

Upon graduation from dental school in 1955, Dr. Borkowski was obliged to spend two years in Rome, NY in the Air Force.  A newspaper article stated that a school physician called fluoride rat poison and was not to be used in city water.  I wrote a letter to the Editor disputing his the physician’s knowledge on the subject.  My commanding officer called me on the carpet and told me to mind my own business, or he’s send me to the Air Force Base in Greenland.  I convinced him that my Indiana training qualifies for factual information.  He then insisted I go to a town meeting on fluoridating the water.  I did, and they fluoridated the water after I quoted believable research that was out there!

Dr. Bowman was in general practice 45 years.  Dentistry was his childhood dream.
As a dental student, Dr. Bowman worked in the Crest program in 1959 and 1960 under Dr. Muhler and Dr. Bixler.  I.U. proved Crest was the best!

For recreation, Dr. Bowman likes to work out and to play golf.

Dr. Crose has been in practice 37 years.  She went into dentistry because she loved helping her father in his office after school, and became good at calming and reassuring children during treatment.  Later, says Dr. Crose “I knew I wanted to be a doctor and a mommy.  Dentistry allowed me to do both.”

Dr. Crose’s area of expertise is pediatric dentistry, behavior modification, early growth and development, and children with disabilities.  Current research includes comparing effects of different pulpectomy materials long term.  Areas of interest include Autism, abnormal growth and development (early intervention).

Dr. Crose is married with 2 children.  She likes traveling, dancing, walking, horseback riding, and flower gardening.  She is a Sunday School teacher and lay leader at her church; Chairs National Day of Prayer for Zionsville area; is an Alternate Delegate for IDDS, and participated in the IDDS Leadership Development Task Force Focus Groups.

Dr. Easter has been in general practice for 16 years.  His grandfather who was a dentist at IUSD, played on the IUSD “basketball” team which was very competitive.

Currently, Dr. Easter is a member of the IDDS Membership Committee, and an IDDS Alternate Delegate, Editor of IDDS quarterly magazine, Dateline, is active in sports dentistry for various teams, and is a member of Academy of Sports Dentistry.

Married with 2 children, Dr. Easter likes to snow-ski, fish, hunt, water-ski, scuba dive, and coaches children’s baseball and soccer teams.

Dr. Glander has been in practice 50 years.  He went into dentistry “because it was a hands on people-oriented profession.  It remains an enjoyable and challenging vocation”!

Dr. Glander’s professional interest is occlusion and TMJ.

Married with 4 children and 8 grandchildren (and 2 yorkies!), Dr. Glander likes to fish, birdwatch, attend IU football and basketball games, and watch the grandchildren’s activities.  Active in environmental affairs, he was the founder of the Friends of the White River and the Indianapolis Flycasters.  He is a recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash

Dr. Glander said “at the birth of our first child, Skip, (with whom I now practice), I took Evie to the Golf Course instead of to the hospital.  I was in the Air Force Dental Service and golfed every day, so the car automatically headed for the golf course every time I got in it”!  Dr. and Mrs. Glander recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Dr. Gossweiler has been in practice for 45 years.  He went into dentistry because he thought it was a good profession.  Dr. Gossweiler’s area of expertise—he’s a “gold” man.

Married with 3 sons, Dr. Gossweiler enjoys taebo, martial arts, exercise, travel, and downhill skiing.

Dr. Gossweiler’s staff says their favorite story about Dr. Karl happened several years ago.
“We received a call from Amvets.  I went into the operatory to ask him if he had anything he would like to donate to them.  He gave me a puzzled look and said “Amvets—we don’t even have a dog!!!”

I am in receipt of the award trophy for my fifty-five years membership in the Indianapolis District Dental Society.  Thank you for sending the trophy, for I consider this an extra effort from you good people.  I would have been there for the presentation had it not been more miles than I usually drive at night.  My age eighty-five is a factor to be considered.

Most of all, I thank you for making the effort to make awards for us old timers.  Sometimes we think we are now out of the picture and this makes us feel that we are continuing to be in your minds.  Thank you for all you do.

Dentist Name:               Matthew Moll, D.D.S.

Back home again in Indiana. Matt has returned to Indianapolis to practice Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and is a new member of the IDDS. He has had many educational experiences, and gained a wealth of knowledge, since graduating from I.U. Dental School in 1997.
Matt has is currently practicing at the East Indianapolis Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Practice, with offices in Indianapolis and Greenfield and is practicing with Steven C. Graham, D.D.S.  M. Charles Moll, D.D.S. has retired and is a consultant to the practice.
Matt graduated from Cathedral High School in Indianapolis in 1988, with high honors. In the four years at Cathedral, Matt was a four year letterman on the wrestling team that lost only one dual meet. Matt won over 100 matches, won the Indianapolis City Tourney four times, went to the Indiana State Finals twice and placed fourth his junior year.

Matt attended Indiana University in Bloomington and graduated with a BA in Biology in 1992. During each of the four years at I.U., Matt won the annual wrestling tourney for those not on the varsity team. His graduate studies at IUPUI included Biochemistry, Physiology, Anatomy, Pharmacology, and Microbiology courses. Matt was accepted at Indiana University Dental School in 1993 and graduated in 1997, 30 years after his father graduated in 1967.

After graduation, Matt attended the Ohio State Dental School in Columbus, Ohio for one year in the Oral Surgery Fellowship Program. There he was an undergraduate clinical instructor in Oral Surgery and received an honorary award for best teacher. He also was a patient care provider performing dentoalveolar surgery utilizing IV sedations. While at Ohio State, he was privileged to meet and have discussions with Larry Pederson, D.D.S., an author of several Oral Surgery texts, now deceased
The next two years, 1998 to 2000, Matt was an anesthesia extern serving in the Anesthesia Department at Wishard Memorial Hospital, Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana. He also served as the anesthesia monitor and presenter for the I.U. Pedodontic residents taking their rotations in anesthesia.

In 2000, Matt was accepted in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery program at Alameda County Medial Center Highland General Hospital in Oakland, California. The director at Highland Hospital Division of OMS, and Professor and Chairman, University of Pacific School of Dentistry Department of OMS is A. Thomas Indresano, D.M.D., and FACD. Matt trained for four years there and had surgery experiences at several facilities. There were no competing services such as ENT or Plastic Surgery residents at Highland Hospital resulting in the Oral Surgery residents treating all of the maxillofacial trauma. The Oral Surgery program is also affiliated with the University Of Pacific Dental School in San Francisco. Matt spent some time at the Oral Surgery Clinic at the U.of P. Dental School and also with the students that came to Highland Hospital for training in dentoalveolar surgery. He also was able to spend some time at the Oral Surgery Clinic at Travis Air Force Base. His last year as the Chief Resident, in a six month rotation at the Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Oakland, he participated in over 250 Orthognathic surgery cases.

His dental implant training was extensive; Matt assisted with and placed several zygomatic implants and was mentored by Dr. Edmond Bedrossian, serving on the staff of Highland Hospital since 1990. He is the Director of Surgical Implant Training at the Alamedia County Medial Center Oral/Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program. Dr. Bedrossian also directs the Post-Doctoral AEGD and Orthodontic Residence Implant Training Programs at the University of The Pacific. Dr. Bedrossian is currently serving as Vice-President for the Academy of Osseointegration Foundation, having previously served as secretary of the Foundation. Dr. Bedrossian has lectured nationally as well as internationally. He has published numerous articles and is a member of the Editorial Review Board of peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Nicholson has been in orthodontics practice for 24 years.  He went into dentistry because “I knew at age 17 that I wanted to help people, but have a family, too.  Dentistry was my fist choice over medicine so that I could have family time.”

Dr. Nicholson enjoys being involved in 4H projects with his children (and their 15 goats).  He also enjoys photography, snow skiing, and youth ministry.  He volunteers for his church and area wide youth ministry.  Dr. Nicholson and his wife have 4 boys.


Dentist Name:               Dr. Charles E. (Chuck) Smith

Dr. Smith has been in dentistry 45 years.  He went into dentistry because a pre-dental student had encouraged him to do so.  Dr. Smith’s area of expertise is public health dentistry.  He is interested in dental care for the underserved, and community fluoridation. Dr. Smith volunteers for the ISDH/IUSD SEAL Indiana program.

For recreation, Dr. Smith likes kayaking, racquetball, basketball, chess, woodworking, and camping. 

Dr. Smith and his wife of 52 years, Myrna, have two children.

Dr. Smith relates this funny story about himself. “I failed at my first two long term goals.  In the sixth grade, my best friend and I had agreed to:

  1. Drop out of school as soon as we turned 16.
  2. Get all our teeth pulled so we would never need to go to the dentist again!”

Dr. Stokes has been in general practice 35 years, with an interest in orthodontics.  He went to dental school after working at IUSD as a lab tech in dental research with Dr. George Stookey and Dr. Joseph Muhler.

Dr. Stokes has been a part-time instructor in the Operatives Department at IU School of Dentistry since 1977.  Dr. Stokes has volunteered for Donated Dental Services and Gennesaret Free Clinic. 

Married with 2 children and 3 grandchildren, Dr. Stokes enjoys tennis and reading.
